Piwakawaka have been busy in the school garden!

At the end of term 2 Piwakawaka were learning about Matariki and the nine stars that make up the cluster. We have been focusing on the stars connection and responsibility for kai. The star 'Tupānuki' is responsible for foods that grow below the ground so we prepared one of the garden beds and planted garlic. We had a lot of fun and look forward to harvest time so we can make some garlic bread to spread on some rolls for our lunch!

  1. What a lovely way to celebrate Matariki, Rūma Pīwakawaka! It looks like you were really thinking about Tupuānuku as you planted out your garlic. As you get a bit bigger you will be able to plant things by leaning over the soil rather than needing to stand on it, and that will help care for the soil even more. I am looking forward to the smell of your garlic bread baking! From Whaea Tiff.
