Good New Bad News Book

During Lockdown level 4, for writing, Ruma Piwakawaka, started writing a book called , Good News Bad News based on the book by Colin McNaughton.

Everyone came up with their own ideas and then we published them together on a slide to make an e-book.

We loved writing funny one to make each other laugh. Here are some of our favourite pages.

The Fantastic Science Roadshow

Today, we went to the Science Roadshow in our school hall. We learned about all sorts of scientific concepts such as air pressure, chemical reactions with acids and bases, and speed.
Eva "if you turned this picture upside down they would smile and if you left it they would be frowning" It was an optical illusion.

Novayah "I was spinning a lever around and the blocks went up and down like how mountains form"
Kairi "I was looking inside and it spun around making electricity and the lights went on"
Alice "you had to put balls down those rows to see which was heavier"
Zac "my favourite bit was when they showed the balloons popping with the nails.
Harmoni "I liked when they turned on the vacuum cleaner and the beach ball floated in the air"
Lui "my favourite bit was when you had to stand with a partner in front of the big fan. It was so loud"
Impala "I loved the lightening inside the ball, it felt weird and soft"
Liam "my favourite part was when my old teacher vacuum sealed in a bag"
Logan "I liked the experiment with coke and mentos, it went up and then down the tubes into the glasses.

Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu, Back in Time

Last week, we went to Shantytown to learn about the olden days.

First, we got to dress up in olden day clothes. The girls wore long dresses and skirts, an apron and a bonnet hat. The boys wore shorts, shirts, waistcoats and a cheese cutter cap. We felt really hot in those clothes.

Next, we learned about how the Maori came to get pounamu, a precious stone. We also learned about the gold rush and how all the people came to prospect for gold.

After that, we did some shopping activities and had to go to Chinatown for our fresh vegetables.

At lunchtime, we got to play with toys like, stilts and wooden horses and a horseshoe game like the ones from Victorian times.

Our favourite thing was riding the steam train to the gold panning site and panning for our very own gold.
 We had heaps of fun.
